This antique Hungarian autograph book (emlékkönyv) is from the early 1900s. Its owner is Gizike who also liked to illustrate the messages of her friends and family (signed S.G.). Some illustrations are from the authors of the messages which are mostly in Hungarian and some in German. Purchased in an online thrift store, it is now a cherished part of my antiques collection.
The original top cover was so much destroyed (original metal embellishments fell off, and it also had a bigger ink splash) that the book now received a new fabric cover. Nothing else was changed on the journal. Surely even Gizike wouldn’t mind…:)
Enjoy this small flashback to the so-called “békebeli” era (something like the Belle Epoque in France).
